At over 11 feet this is a high set of shelves. You can reach the upper shelves with the help of a specially made removable ladder or a permanently fixed, sliding library ladder. An ash tree cut on the estate was used for this project which had lovely olive markings and looks a little like marble.
The room is old and non symmetrical with the walls tapering outwards and has a door tight in the corner. These constraints on design were resolved by cantilevering the outer shelves from a pair of classically inspired fluted columns. They are supported by strong fixings to a backing board painted in the same colour as the wall.
Details include carved capitals using a floral pattern inspired by the customer.
